SSOUT LEADERSHIP

As a Scout leader I work together with two Assisstant Scout leaders and undertake such tasks as planning/running and evaluating weekly Troop meetings , planning/running and evaluating activities such as camping expeditions , day trips , hiking and canoeing expeditions and planning 'badge work' over a period of several months to give the Troop an opportunity to gain Proficiency Badges. Additionally , I also plan/run and advertise fund raising events , sit on the Group committee , allocate tasks and keep up to date with current Scouting guidelines . The most rewarding task however , is helping to develop the individual members of the Troop .

The main aim of the Scout movement is not solely to teach Scouting skills but to develop young people both physically and mentally into responsible citizens who can take a worthwhile place in society . Through careful use of my interpersonal skills I am able to motivate the Troop members , encourage them to work together and encourage them to participate in all events . Being approachable and diplomatic helps me to achieve this and these interpersonal skills have helped enormously in the smooth running of the Troop.

Although it is difficult to provide evidence of these skills I would state that when I became the Scout leader there were only 3 members of the Troop. Through successful programmes and meetings we now have 15 members who attend the meetings every week. I am particularly proud of this success, as 15 is the highest number of members that the Scout section has had for over five years
